GAA: The Championship Brief

RDJ recently held its annual GAA panel discussion event “GAA: The Championship Brief” at the firm’s office at 85 South Mall in Cork on Thursday, 12 June.

It was an engaging panel discussion with sporting legends Anthony Daly, Briege Corkery and Tomás Ó Sé who reminisced on their playing days and emphasised the importance of the GAA in their lives and communities across Ireland.

Anthony Daly | Ex Clare hurler / manager and pundit

Widely regarded as one of Clare's all-time greatest and most popular players, Anthony Daly captained the banner county to two All-Ireland titles and three Munster Championships earning himself three All-Star awards while doing so. He was the first Clare man in 81 years to lift the Liam McCarthy Cup after that hard fought win over Offaly in the 1995 All-Ireland Final. He won five county titles and one provincial crown with his club, Clarecastle. He also won Dublin’s first National Hurling League title in 72 years and their first Leinster title in 52 years. Since his retirement from playing, Anthony has managed Clare and Dublin hurler. Anthony is now a GAA Analyst with RTÉ on the Sunday Game Television programme.

Briege Corkery | Ex Cork Ladies footballer and Camogie

With eighteen All Ireland medals and ten All-Stars, Briege Corkery is one of the most successful and decorated players in Gaelic Games history. During an outstanding 12-year career, the Cork Camogie player and Gaelic Footballer also collected two Sportswoman of the Year awards. Briege attributes her trademark dynamism to the active lifestyle on the farm she leads to this very day. In the conversation about the greatest of all time, Briege is at the centre. 

Tomás Ó Sé | Ex Kerry Footballer and pundit

Tomás Ó Sé is one of the most decorated Gaelic footballers in the GAA. Representing Kerry on the football pitch for over 20 years, Ó Sé has won five All-Ireland titles, nine Munster titles and was Footballer of the year in 2004. In 2020 he was listed as one of the ‘20 Greatest Footballers of the past 50 years’ by the Irish Independent. Tomás is currently the Kerry U-20 manager who has led them to their fourth-in-a-row Munster Championship. Since leaving football, he has also gone into punditry and is a GAA analyst on The Sunday Game along with hosting his own successful podcast Comhrá le Tomás.
